Kiffin May Alternate QBs Regularly

As much as Lions Head Coach Rod Marinelli says it doesn't matter who we start, that the preparation will be the same, I think everyone knows that he really has no other choice but to describe it that way... as much as Marinelli says they are similar, we all know that McCown and Culpepper are dramatically different QBs - in size, in movement, in arm strength, in tendencies, in throwing motion, in release, and in decision making...

Kiffin's answer to the media question of "why won't you tell us?" is
"because I don't want to". That's beautiful !! BTW, Poor Lowell Cohn got his feelings hurt again... what makes Lowell think he is so darned important that he can't be brushed off by an NFL Head Coach? Get a grip Lowell, you are a freakin local sports beat writer, not Walter Cronkite (maybe Barbara Walters by the way you act)... but I digress.... Gotta think this Kiffin is a keeper!!! Kiffin then went on to joke about how this "secret QB" trick didn't work for Charlie Weiss. Again, beautiful...

I'm just as traditional as anyone else, it bugs me that we don't know who the starting QB is. I think its very important to name your guy, stand by your guy and let your guy take nearly all the first team reps... especially since Culpepper is a ProBowl, Franchise-type QB and McCown up until now has been a serviceable back-up-type QB.... but all that said, maybe Kiffin is onto something...

I read somewhere Kiffin said "this is not permanent" no matter who
starts against the Lions... Maybe this QB competition is not over yet. Maybe we see Kiffin alternate (ala college) between McCown and Culpepper for the first few games until he sees enough from both under real fire, in live action to make a more permanent decision.

I'm Ok with that from the perspective that we are really going against 3
very weak teams in 3 of our first 4 games... we should be able to beat the Lions, Browns and Dolphins with either QB... maybe we will beat them with both! Maybe we get to see the QB competition elevated a little higher until Kiffin makes up his mind...

Either way, this keeps it very interesting for us die-hards... I can hardly wait until Sunday.....

Man, I usually go to Raider Take for my dose of sanity. This time it comes from you, Tooz, and thanks.

If things go basically as planned, Russell should be our starter next year anyway. With this offense and either McCown or Culpepper we are way ahead of where we were last year at this time.

Tooz,

Great insight as always... that said... I think people are overestimating Denver too. If you watched how bad their D looked in the preseason, the Donkey fans have a reason to be scared. Seriously, we do have a shot at starting out 4-0....

In any case.. come on Sunday. I'm ready to bleed Silver and Black again.
