I believe Petrino was contacted by phone and believe the details of the offer: $15 million for 5 years. Just because he didn't show up in Oakland doesn't mean he wasn't offered the job.

Honestly, here's probably how Whisenhunt's interview went:

Davis: "blah blah...so I will have final say in draft picks..free agents...your defensive coordinator, your assistants like Willie Shaw.."

Whise: "Thanks Davis, I'm not sure I'm interested."

If we were to rank the NFL coaches by knowledge of the game, x's and o's, ability to change gameplans and adjust on the fly, where would Shell land after doing light network duty for all these years? Has to be bottom third right? So how does this hire help the team?

OK, after watching the Art Shell Press Conference I admit I was wrong about Petrino as Al Davis said he made Petrino an offer.... that still doesn't mean though that I will EVER take the press/media's word on anything - Al also made that very clear as well... "The Oakland Raiders, the most trusted name in sports" - what a howl....
